Syros Sound Meetings is an informal initiative run by research-creation unit acte vide (Danae Stefanou and Ioannis Kotsonis). Between 2011 and 2022 the initiative organized thematic workshops, events and international residencies for sound artists and researchers in Ano Syros and the Apano Meria of Syros, Greece. Focusing on field recordings, intermedia improvisation and site-specific performances and installations the initiative hosted over 150 artists and researchers over a period of 11 years. Many of the participant artists first met in Syros and have since gone on to develop long-lasting collaborations. Until 2022, Syros Sound Meetings operated under the umbrella of Syros Institute, and collaborated with both local and international partner institutions on an ad-hoc, project-specific basis.
